Superintendent Hopson of Shelby County Schools agreeing to support the high school youth in organizing a District wide Walkout in Shelby County on April 20th.
The Walkout is part of a national campaign to protest gun violence and mass shootings (specifically in response to the Parkland shooting) and rethink suspensions, expulsions, and other components of the school-to-prison pipeline system that disproportionately affect youth of color. Please SHARE this awesome news!! The youth leaders and Superintendent will continue to meet in the following weeks to hash out details of the Walkout and next steps to successfully propose the youth's list of demands to the school board on April 24th. We will send more updates soon!!
